Rosy Maple Moth 8"x10" Print

Rosy Maple Moth 8"x10" Print

This möth has been on my “to draw” list for well over a year. If Barbie were a moth...

At first glance, these beauties might seem too vibrant to ever actually camouflage themselves in the wild, unless they were on a bright similarly-colored flower (dahlia perhaps?). Except the adults don’t even have mouthparts so…. they don’t eat; thus, it’s unlikely to be visiting a flower. They would, however, visit their host plant- the maple tree!- to lay eggs where the baby caterpillars can immediately begin devouring tender maple leaves as soon as they emerge. But wait, aren’t most (native) maple leaves green? Behold: the *seeds* of a red maple, the color palette of which sure does bear a striking resemblance to this moth. And so now we learn how this moth manages to disguise itself by hiding in (sort of) plain sight.

The standard 8"x10" size is easily matted into an 11"x14" mat and frame. A great size for any room! (Frame is not included, shown for demonstration/inspiration purposes only.)

The print will come to you in a protective plastic sleeve with a hard backing.
